Wayne Magrin was born 1961 in Sydney, Australia. He was included in the 2016 exhibition UNKNOWN–THE MAGNIFICENT 10 at the Ludwig Museum in Koblenz, Germany. His paintings are held in private collections in the Unites States, Australia, and New Zealand. The artist currently lives and works in the Northern Beaches suburb of Sydney.

This exhibition relates to the history of Maritime painting on the East End. As contemporary and conceptual art found it’s place in the local museums and galleries over the past few decades, land and seascapes remained of interest, but Maritime painting was pushed to the margins. Aside from the compelling and somewhat mysterious narratives in Wayne Magrin’s large scale representations of seafaring culture, they are painted in a style that combines the drama and energy of Marsden Hartley’s seascapes, with the flattened depth of field and minimal compositions employed by Milton Avery and Contemporary painter Alex Katz.
